Get ready for parties and parades, Desis! August 14 and August 15 mark the independence days of Pakistan and India. This is the 62nd anniversary of the two countries' independence from the United Kingdom, and we want to wish all our South Asian readers a Happy Independence Day!
Beginning in the year 1947, Pakistan began celebrating its independence on August 14 and India started celebrating its independence August 15. Desis around the globe celebrate this milestone by raising their flags and gathering at local events. Melas, parades, lectures, and parties are hosted in many towns as we all remember the country we came from. Children will paint their faces in green, orange, and white, girls will adorn their hands in mehndi, families will gather for dinner, and the streets will be filled with music.

'Green & White' is a Sufi-rock song produced by Yusuf Jan that exemplifies the growth and talent in Pakistan. 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' is done by producer and international success, A.R. Rahman. This song has a very rich and classical sound but both songs are moving and full of pride for their countries.
