Movie Review: The Secret Life Of The American Teenager – Season Two

I take a lot of grief over the fact that I enjoy this show. Friends, family, co-workers, roommates – all of these people like to rib me over my enjoyment of a show created by the person who created Seventh Heaven and is written for teenage girls and lonely older women. I understand the mockery and certainly don’t take my own attraction to the show too seriously. The only problem is that I love this show and cannot help it in the least. Now you have the chance to bring the second season home and know exactly what I’m talking about.

Starting this June 16th, now available as a DVD boxed set from ABC Family comes the second season of one of the best and most popular new shows about life as a teenager and all the crazy stuff it has come to entail. The Secret Life Of The American Teenage – Season Two is ready to come sprinting out of your television screen and shower with living room with innovative and incredibly emotionally involving stories. Bring home this fantastic show on DVD today!

Amy is still pregnant, Ricky still has issues and Ben is still head over heels in love with Amy. But Ben is starting to struggle with how he will end up fitting into the baby’s life once Amy starts to draw closer to Ricky. Yet Amy isn’t even sure if she’s going to keep the baby, but family after adoptive family keep falling through. Ben and Amy have a secret wedding using fake IDs, but find out that doing so makes the marriage license null and void. Amy’s parents are moving forward with their divorce and Ben’s dad is making him get a job. With all that going on, not to mention the impending baby, how will they get a chance to be high school students as well?

The special features included in this DVD boxed set are a close look at the actors who play their characters and some of their insights into what’s really going on, some great secrets about the characters and a music video performed by the band The Strange Familiar.

I cannot overemphasize how incredible this show is. Yeah, the acting might not always be the best ever, but there is something about it that is so emotionally involving. This show will grab you in the heart and won’t let you go. Shailene Woodley is magnificent as Amy. She manages to channel that girl in high school you always liked but couldn’t talk to, only she’s infinitely more approachable and human. This goes without saying, but it’s a monumental delight to see Molly Ringwald back on your screen. It’s a little weird to see her older, but it’s glorious to have her with us once again. Above and beyond all else, the reason that this show has the capacity to touch us in such deep ways is because we want for the point of the show to be true. We might not have gotten a girl pregnant or fell in love with a pregnant girl or struggled with the intersection of our beauty and our faith, but this show touches on issues below that. There is redemption, there is resolution, there are second chances. And, past all of that, we all wish to believe that it’s not just good writing, but that maybe there is such a thing as true love.

This is a Secret everyone should be in on.
