Urban Desi Artists Inspired By Bollywood

Urban Desi artists are always trying to push the envelope on the Desi music scene while staying clear of traditional styles of music such as cheesy Bollywood. We've found a number of sizzling Urban tunes that remind us of some Bollywood favorites. I guess there's no denying that a bit of Bollywood lovin' is in every Desi's heart. Check out these videos of some of the hot Urban Desi songs that have a familiar Bollywood classic in them .

Jay Sean is no stranger to the Urban Desi music scene, though he has not sung in Hindi, he has taken a Bollywood classic and included it on one of his songs. 'Stolen 'is one of Jay Sean's earlier singles and it features the opening line of the Bollywood song 'Chura Liya Hai' from the movie "Yaadon Ki Baraat." The original Bollywood number featured Bollywood babe Zeenat Aman; however, Jay Sean's video for 'Stolen' is not lacking in that department. 'Stolen' stars the sexy Bipasha Basu!

Raghav's debut album "Storyteller" was released back in 2004. His album and sexy voice got him the awards of best newcomer in 2005 at the UK Asian Music awards and best artists at the 2005 Southern Asian Music awards. He's sang songs in Hindi and English and pulled his inspiration from Bollywood classics. The song 'Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar' is from the movie "CID" which starred superstar Dev Anand in 1956. Fast forward to 2004 and we hear it again in Raghav's 'Let's work it Out.'

'Bindya Chamkegi' is a song from movie "Do Raaste" which was released in 1969. Mumtaz is seen in a simple orange sari vying for Rajesh Khanna's attention. This song has been a hit through generations thanks to the many remixes DJ's have released. Urban Desi artist Navin Kundra borrows the song in his single 'Love Thing.' We can hear the lines "Bindya chankegi, Chudi kankegi" throughout his entire track.

The trio of 747 Records consists of producer Baba Kahn and vocalists Sunny Brown and Lomaticc. Their recent summer release 'Bombay Bo' takes its shape from the original 'Akkad Bakkad Bombay Bo' from the movie "King Uncle." This movie hit the big screen in 1995 and starred Jackie Shroff and Shahrukh Khan. The original is a fun childrens song set around the dinner table. Now Baba Kahn, Sunny Brown, and Lomaticc have given us a club track.

AG Dolla's album "Mr. Shah" is one of our favorite summer albums. Amongst all its diverse sounds and tracks, we came across a few Bollywood classics. Let's talk about the first track on the album. 'Border Control' uses a more recent Bollywood number: 'Dola Re Dola' from movie "Devdas," has been made famous by Madhuri Dixit and Aishwariya Rai Bachchan's grace and expression in their amazing dance routine. AGD uses the original, 'Dola Re Dola,' quite creatively by connecting it with his name. Though his name has no connection to the song 'Dola Re Dola' his cheeky twist on it is one of a kind.
