The Indian Job

Remember the 2003 film "The Italian Job" starring Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron? What you might not remember is that it was a remake of the 1969 movie with the same name. The old flick is going to get yet another rebirth, this time in Bollywood. The original stars a cast trying to steal four million dollars worth of gold. The movie also featured the famous Mini Cooper chase scene, forever immortalizing the car. Indian Film Company Studio 18 has bought the rights for the film. The film will be directed by siblings, Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla. Since the rights have just been finalized, filming hasn't started but it will begin at the end of the year. Also the cast hasn't been chosen and we don't know if the iconic Mini Cooper will be making an appearance in the film.

Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of the film company notes, "Our network's association with Viacom has provided us with the opportunity to explore legitimate remakes from Paramount Pictures' extensive film library." This trend of buying the rights to Bollywood films is starting to become more familiar. Rights holders to Hollywood films have been going after Indian film houses for stealing the ideas to their films. Currently the Indian Film Company is finishing up their latest film, "Life Partner" starring Govinda.

Also getting in on the Hollywood trend is Karan Johar who is talking to Sony for the rights to the 1998 film, "Stepmom" which starred Julia Roberts. But what do you think about the latest pickup for Bollywood? Looking forward to seeing "The Italian Job" or even "Stepmom" with the Bollywood flair? Leave us a comment and let us know what Hollywood film you would want to see go Bollywood.
