The expectations for Shilpa Shetty's performance with Akon at the IPL finale were somewhat enigmatic. The surmounting anticipation for the power duo completely fell through when Shilpa Shetty didn't even show up for the event.
We weren't initially sure what Shilpa Shetty was going to do performing beside Akon, whether she would just dance or if she would sing, something we haven't yet witnessed from the star. She was supposed to dance and said so herself, but now there's no way of knowing what she had in store other than the act of disappearing.
The plan for Shilpa Shetty to perform alongside Akon was an opportune reputation booster for both stars. She received thanks from South African president Jacob Zuma for her presence at IPL matches, so a performance on her behalf was rightfully conceptualized.
Sources say that Shetty claims she didn't have time to practice, but she left fellow actress Katrina Kaif even more unprepared. Katrina Kaif was only supposed to dance to "Jai Ho" with Shiamak Davar, but immediately before Akon took the stage was informed that she would also be dancing with him.
"I was like... zapped! Not only because I was not prepared for it, but also because I'm Akon's biggest fan. Just sharing the stage with him would have been a dream come true. And there I was dancing with him. It was an exhilarating experience," she said to The Times of India.
Having met only moments before the performance, Akon and Kaif had to improvise and it was evident in their uncoordinated dance moves. Call it spontaneous, but it was kind of a mess.
"I was numb and clueless. So we just improvised and did what we wanted to," said Katrina Kaif.
