"Slumdog Millionaire" is up for more awards! No really, this is not a piece from three months ago. "Slumdog Millionaire" conquered the Golden Globes, conquered the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and conquered the Oscars. Next on the list? The 2009 MTV Movie Awards. The critical favorite is up for six nominations including Best Movie, leading the pack along with "Twilight." With the way this movie has been able to rack up the awards, someone needs to tell the actors and directors to just build a giant wall in their homes to fill up with awards because that mantle is getting awfully full.
The MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast on Sunday, May 31 and will be hosted by "Saturday Night Live" comedian Andy Samberg. Don't forget, Eminem will be performing as well. Who knows, maybe Dev Patel and Freida Pinto make an appearance at the show in Los Angeles. It's definitely going to be a must watch.
The cool thing about this awards show other than it being on MTV is that Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are both getting individual nominations for their work on "Slumdog Millionaire." Dev Patel is being nominated for Best Male Breakthrough Performance while Freida is holding it down for the Desi ladies in the Best Female Breakthrough Performance. Now, Dev and Freida are also nominated together for the Best Kiss award. Now that they're confirmed to be a couple, assuming they win, it won't look staged at all.
Now don't think "Slumdog Millionaire" has got the Best Movie award in the bag. The competition for Best Movie might just be tougher than any of the other award shows. In addition to "Twilight," "Slumdog Millionaire" is also going up against movies like "The Dark Knight," "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and "Iron Man." "Twilight" and "Slumdog Millionaire" go up against each other in all six categories! Something's got to give there. Voting for everything but Best Movie is going on until May 27. If they split the awards, that would be cool, but "Slumdog Millionaire" has walked away leading at every awards. Let's hope they keep that streak going.
There's always something wild and crazy that goes on at the MTV Movie Awards, almost to the point where the awards are secondary. Winning is cool and all, but it's all about having a good time, getting a few laughs in, seeing a performance or two, and seeing who dressed to impress and who had the nerve to walk out of their house with a weird, unusual, and disgusting get-up. Now there's obviously no secret as to who we hope will win Best Picture, but we just want to see a great show. Let us know what you think about the nominations and just how many awards do you think "Slumdog Millionaire" can take home this time.
