'Jashnn' tells the story of 20-year-old Akash Verma (Adhyayan Suman) who aspires to become a singing sensation but is unable to compete with the existing top names in the music industry. While he hopes to make it big one day, Akash finds himself shattered when he learns that his elder sister Nisha (Shahana Goswami) works as the mistress of business tycoon, Aman Bajaj (Humayun Saeed), to financially support Akash with a decent lifestyle.
Emotionally distressed, Akash is saved by Sara (Anjana Sukhani), a new-entry from Boston, who acts as his mentor and later becomes his girlfriend. Sara’s genuine love and support makes Akash realize his talent and brings back his thirst for success. He soon becomes an overnight star and manages to restore dignity to his sister as well. However, Akash is unaware that Sara is the younger sister of his biggest rival – Aman Bajaj.
How Akash handles his stardom, whether he lives up to the faith that Sara had shown him and to what heights his rivalry goes with Aman is all revealed at the end of this intense musical journey.
The Cast:
Adhyayan Suman as Akash Verma – a struggling musician who seeks to create a niche for his own voice in the music industry and be on the road to stardom. What’s interesting is how Akash evolves from being a frivolous young boy to a mature man.
Anjana Sukhani as Sara – Akash’s loyal girlfriend who stands by his side through the toughest period of his life. She restores Akash’s confidence and gets him back on his feet to fulfill his dreams.
Shahana Goswami as Nisha – Akash’s reluctant elder sister who runs the house by working as the mistress of businessman Aman Bajaj. She is constantly humiliated by Akash, and abused by Aman, but eventually overcomes her sorrow.
Humayun Saeed as Aman Bajaj – an extremely successful entrepreneur who is the elder brother of Sara, boss of Nisha and enemy of Akash. Though black is his color, his conceited character sheds off shades of grey, and later experiences anguish.

What Worked:
Although director duo Raksha-Hasnain ('The Killer' and 'The Train') have kept 'Jashnn' low on stars, they make sure it runs high on emotions. Writer Shagufta Rafique has included enough details to tug at the viewer’s heart. The powerful confrontation scenes between Adhyayan, Humayun and Shahana Goswami give off great intensity.
Adhyayan shows a remarkable improvement since his last film, Raaz 2.
The surprise package of the film is Shahana Goswami ('Rock On!'). She completely immerses herself into character and manages to evoke the right response from viewers. Humayun also delivers an impressive villainous act.
What Didn't:
On the downside, 'Jashnn' fails to hold interest. The soppy second half of the film becomes predictable and moves rather slowly. It keeps the viewer waiting for unpredictable sub plots and lacks the high excitement level expected from an intense musical.
The climax only shows the inconsistent nature of the film; Adhyayan, who throughout the film is shown to perform with his three band members, suddenly flies solo.
Although Adhyayan has slightly polished as an actor, he can't seem to pull off the simplest of scenes without a hysterical outbreak.
The Soundtrack:
Often called 'the Aashiqui of generation-next,' this soulful soundtrack is nothing less than a blockbuster. Music director duo Sharib-Toshi has composed chart-topping tracks including "Aaya Re," and the kilogram mixes of "Nazrein Karam," and "Dard-E-Tanhai."
Slated or Rated:
Despite the jaded tale, 'Jashnn' has an uplifting soundtrack and brilliant performances. This emotionally packed musical extravaganza is worth a watch!
Rating: 3/5
