Music Review: 'The Hero Never Dies' Mixtape by Sef

Urban Desi artist Sef was born and raised in London and has always been interested in music. He is now a singer and songwriter whose vocals have shocked the world. His cool look and fresh flavor captivated us with his song "U Need a Hero" and now he has released a mixtape entitled "The Hero Never Dies."

What We Think:
What makes a mixtape different from an album? Mixtapes show an artist's ability to adopt songs and add their own lyrics and style. Today the mainstream world is enjoying the mixtapes of artists like Drake and Kid Cudi; in fact their mixtapes have gotten such rave reviews that many are considering them to be at album level.

Sef chose to remix familiar songs like M.I.A's "Paper Planes," Keri Hilson's "Knock You Down," and Jeramih's "Birthday Sex." And with such hot picks we hoped that Sef would add a new element to each track. Unfortunately his vocals and added flair are not at all impressive. Although the mixtape contains both pop sounds and slower tunes, to enjoy it you may need to listen to the songs and not concentrate so much on Sef's vocals or lyrics.

Best Songs
"Don't Underestimate the Kidz"

"U Need a Hero" ft. Swiss

Worst song
"Blame It On"

This hit song was originally performed by Jamie Foxx and has had some great mixes, and even memorable parodies. Unfortunately, Sef did not add anything to the original track. It is a disappointing remix and we wanted to skip it because we love the original and we didn't want to lose that feeling.

Final Verdict
Sef's release of the song "U Need a Hero" earned him wide recognition. His smooth vocals and hot track were kicked up a notch with Des-C's contribution, and we all loved it. With such a hit maybe our expectations were just too high for the mixtape. Then again, mixtapes released today are of very good quality, so maybe Sef just isn't ready to compete yet. His vocals are rough and his song choices could have been better. We don't recommend this mixtape and hope that Sef step up to the challenge for his next release.
