Eminem Admits to Being in on the MTV Movie Awards Joke

Eminem performing "Without Me" at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards. The hit TV show "Punk'd" may be cancelled, but Eminem still found a way to put one over on the world once again. Remember that whole Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno entrance at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards that went awry? Well it's been confirmed that it was staged. Yes, the intentional fall on Eminem? Staged. The awkward positioning of Baron's butt near Eminem's face? Staged. The angry reaction Eminem and his crew had, forcing them to walk out of the award show ? Yes, staged too. Eminem cleared the air yesterday and told everyone the truth.

"Sacha called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards," Em explained. "I'm a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag. I'm thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going 'nuts' so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it. After the ceremony I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about 3 hours, especially after I saw it on air..."

Most people thought the stunt was real and that Eminem really was angry. There was that little sect of conspiracy theorists out there that believed this was planned out a bit too perfectly. Well conspiracy theorists, you won! Nothing gets by you guys!

As for the alleged robbery that cost him his laptop and a $60,000 necklace, Eminem debunked those rumors too, calling them greatly exaggerated.

"The only thing was that I lost a Nike watch that we were looking for. The rest it is made-up, like half the other stuff out there," Eminem said.

If this stunt did two things, it was keeping Eminem on everyone's mind and getting people aware of the new Sacha Baron Cohen movie called "Bruno." That movie is slated to hit theaters this July. If this was all done just to generate interest in his comedy, then they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Publicity stunts are usually something to be frowned upon, but let's be honest. Would you have known about this "Bruno" movie, let alone have interest in seeing it if this stunt didn't happen? Probably not.

Were you fooled by this stunt by Eminem and Sacha Baron Cohen? Do you think their stunt accomplished what it set out to do? Drop us a comment with your thoughts.
