Music Kidz Signed to Jay-Z's Label Roc Nation

April 17 2009 15:55 PST

HipHop heavy hitter Jay- Z has set his sights on UK group Music Kidz made up of producer Shabz, K1, and singer Sef. Jay-Z has signed the boys to his Roc Nation label. Music Kidz came together four years ago and have enjoyed success in the UK.

We talked to the vocalist of the group, Sef, who has worked with The Reelist and on D-Boy's "Loveless." Read the interview below to find out more about the Music Kidz...

How did you get the deal?

The story behind this deal is that Jay Brown's (Artists and Repertoire for Jay-Z) wife heard the track from a friend
and then passed it along to her husband, who knows Jay-Z. They liked our music and we got signed.

What are the benefits of being signed to Roc Nation?

We will go further, get more exposure and become more global, it's a good look and the music is going to be heard by more people. We're going to touch more people.

Are you going to stick with mainstream R&B or are you going to have some Asian elements in your music?

I'm going to try my best to incorporate an Asian flavor but honestly I'm going to take the mainstream R&B route. I
didn't grow up in the Asian music scene but because of D-Boy I began to embrace the Asian music scene. I've even begun going on a couple of Asian road shows.

Are you content with the deal?

It's a phenomenal agreement, I love that they didn't approach only one of us; they took the group as a whole. Music Kidz is like a family. The Label has been amazing, the deal is great.

We want to know what you think of Music Kidz. Do you think that they are talented enough to roll with someone as cool as Jay-Z? Do you think Sef and his crew are comparable or better than his gifted brother D-Boy? Or do you think it should've been D-Boy that had the opportunity to work with someone with the magnitude of Jay-Z? Give us your thoughts on this new development.
