Rock On with MTV; Bangalore Audition

Bangalore on Wednesday played host to the auditions conducted by MTV who are in search for rock starts to form a Desi band. 400 participants registered for the Bangalore auditions and were judged by Kailash Kher, Ram Sampath and Nikhil Chinappa.



The auditions for the Kurkure Desi Beats Rock On with MTV took place in the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium in the Central College campus. It is a new reality show on MTV which documents the entire process of the hunt and the making of the country’s new Desi Rock Band.



Around 400 participants registered for the Bangalore auditions and they were being judged by by Kailash Kher, Ram Sampath and Nikhil Chinappa. The three grounds on which they will be judged are the Desipann Quotient (by Kailash Kher), Music Quotient (by Ram Sampath) and Pagalpann Quotient (by Nikhil Chinappa).


“My job here is to see that the Indianess is retained by the participants. The soil which you come from should be seen in your music. The culture, the tradition and the roots should all be present in our art. In the name of the west, we should not be aping them,” said Kailash Kher.



The contestants were put through a preliminary round where they were judged by local musicians. One among the judges was Jishnu Dasgupta from the band Swaratma. He said, “We are looking for original talent here. Bangalore has got a lot of potential in the music scene. We have lot of expectations from the city.”

The selected 37 contestants proceeded to the final round which was judged by Kailash Kher, Ram Sampath and Nikhil Chinappa. This round was slated to go on till 1:00 AM before selecting the winners. The winners from all the auditions across the country will meet for the grand finale for the making of the Desi Rock Band.



Ram Sampath said, “Bangalore is the rock capital of the country. It has produced many finest bands in the country. I have huge expectations from this city. There is no dearth of talent here.”

Nikhil Chinappa however had a word of advice for the participants. “You all need to be yourselves. Don’t try to fake anything. If you do, then you are in a wrong place. We want to see the real you, your talents. We want people who are serious about the music.”
