The 'Slumdog Millionaire' Midas touch continues! We learned today that the producers of 'Slumdog Millionaire,' Fox Searchlight, want to sign Irrfan Khan to star in a film as the lead! How exciting! While the more recognized stars of the film, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto have signed on to star in big Hollywood productions recently, it's nice to hear that Irrfan has not been left behind either.
Irrfan had this to say, "The studio head Peter Rice came to me and said he'd now like to make a film with me in the lead. Do you know Peter Rice is responsible for the film's release? Otherwise it was going straight into a DVD release. Danny Boyle was in a panic mode and was ready to take the DVD offer. But the makers decided to take the film to Toronto and show it to Fox-Searchlight. They chased me all over the world to get some lines re-done, took the film to Toronto. Luckily, Fox-Searchlight loved SM."
That's not the only news that has Irrfan riding high; he's also just been named one of the six Bollywood faces making an impact in Hollywood by 'Forbes' magazine! The star had previously appeared in the Hollywood films, 'The Namesake' and 'A Mighty Heart,' and was surprised to be recognized when he arrived in Los Angeles for the Academy Awards. He says he didn't doubt the film would win the Oscar when he stepped onto the red carpet. He also added, "I think the kids in SM did the trick. They won over the global audiences' hearts. We grown-up actors were the bonus."
Irrfan also has praise for the young stars of the film saying, "Look at destiny. Look at the kids! People are going mad over Freida Pinto. The photographers won't leave her in peace for even a second. Freida has signed Woody Allen and Dev Patel has signed Manoj Shyamalan. We're going to see much more Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations in the future."
